Norman voters are set to choose a new mayor and potentially new city council members when they go to the polls this week. We’ve compiled what you need to know, including recent stories and basic information about each candidate.

Breea Clark


Hometown: Wichita, Kansas

Lived in Norman since: 2005

Occupation: director of the OU JCPenney Leadership Center

Key platform points: fostering relationships and partnerships, public transportation, inclusivity, sustainability

Bill Hickman


Hometown: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Lived in Norman since: 1994

Occupation: attorney, business owner

Key platform points: government accountability, ending the University North Park tax increment finance district, alleviating road congestion

Evan Dunn


Hometown: Norman

Lived in Norman since: birth, except for some time abroad

Occupation: designer

Key Issues: increasing civic engagement, setting a good example of America for international students, helping to solve stormwater issues

City Council Candidates

The Norman City Council has four wards involved in the Feb. 12 elections. Wards one, three and seven have two or more individuals running, while ward five is an uncontested race for the incumbent.

MEET THE WARD 1 CANDIDATES

Kate Bierman

Age: 31

Hometown: Fletcher, Vermont

Time in Norman: 10 years

Reason for running: Completing projects and solving issues that started during her first term

Occupation: Doggy daycare owner

Previous community involvement: Norman Animal Welfare volunteer, Norman Animal Welfare Oversight Committee

Shon Williamson-Jennings

Age: 41

Hometown: Enid, Oklahoma

Time in Norman: 10 years

Reason for running: Improving health and well-being of Ward 1 residents, ensure that Ward 1’s values and views are represented

Occupation: Prevention specialist, Sally’s List president

Previous community involvement: Junior League of Norman, Norman Cultural Connections board, Sally’s List

Patrick Ahern

Age: 32

Reason for running: Giving back to the community, ensuring all voices are heard

Occupation: Attorney

Previous community involvement: Eagle Scout, Board of Directors for the Center for Children and Families, Inc. and for Namron Players Theatre Company , Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, LGBTQ rights activist

Richard Bailey

Age: 71

Hometown: Tribbey, OK

Reason for running: Providing a different skill set than other council members, solving major issues like the budget

Occupation: Retired after 34 years in business management

Previous community involvement: Volunteered at the United Way, PTA, Lions Club, Norman Regional Hospital, on Board of Directors of the Austin Entrepreneurs Foundation, chairman of the Norman Seniors Association

Alison Petrone

Reason for running: giving back, especially after the teacher walkout

Occupation: Teacher

Stephen Holman

Age: 34

What is your hometown: Norman

Reason for running: Providing institutional knowledge and experience, helping to navigate the big issues

Occupation: Friendly Market manager

Previous community involvement: Norman Music Festival host, local music and art events

Kyle Hurley

Age: 43

Hometown: Norman, Oklahoma

Time in Norman: 41 years

Reason for running: Passionate about Norman and its future, bringing people together, eliminating divisiveness

Occupation: system manager for the emergency departments at Norman Regional Health System

SCHOOL BOARD PROPOSITIONS

Proposition 1


This proposition will allow Norman Public Schools to issue $182,500,000 of its bonds to improve schools’ infrastructure and add an annual tax “upon all taxable property in such District sufficient to pay the interest on such bonds.”

Proposition 2


This proposition will allow Norman Public Schools to issue $3,500,000 of its bonds to purchase transportation equipment and add improvements to make current equipment safer. The proposal will also add an annual tax “upon all taxable property in such District sufficient to pay the interest on such bonds.”
